Jaden Vickers Throws Double-Digits Strikeouts In Shutout Victory Over Cornell

LEESBURG, Fla. – The Rutgers softball team returned to the win column in its final game of The Spring Games rolling to a 3-0 victory in its fourth shutout of the season.

The Scarlet Knights concluded the weekend at 11-4 overall having gone 4-1 on the weekend.
 
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
  • Junior lefthander Jaden Vickers struck out 14 in her second complete-game shutout. Vickers allowed only one hit and two walks reaching double-digit strikeouts for the second time this season. She struck out the side in the first and second innings and did not allow a base runner until the sixth.
  • Eight different Scarlet Knights registered a hit and three separate teammates captured runs in the win.
  • Ashley Hitchcock collected two RBIs going 1-for-2 on the day.
THE RUNDOWN
  • Rutgers broke out of the scoreless stalemate in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Ashley Hitchcock knocked in two runs on single to left scoring Payton Lincavage and Kiersten Withstandley.
  • The Big Red, meanwhile, was kept off the bases until the sixth on a walk by Avery Wagner. Cornell would record its lone hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out single by Emily McKinney.
  • The top of the seventh had the Scarlet Knights drop in one more run. Kyleigh Sand led off with a single to left, stole second and reached home on a single to first from Gabrielle Callaway.
THE SPRING GAMES KNIGHT NOTES
  • Jaden Vickers went 3-1 inside the circle during the weekend holding down a 1.17 ERA with 39 strikeouts. She made four total appearances going the distance in her three starts and totaling 24.0 innings pitched.
  • At the plate, Rutgers was led by Gabrielle Callaway hitting .421 (8-for-19) with two doubles and four RBIs. She also added two runs.
  • Payton Lincavage also posted four RBIs during the weekend along with a trio of runs scored. She batted .353 (6-for-17) with a double and two triples.
  • Kyleigh Sand led the Scarlet Knights in the runs department coming home six times during the five-game weekend. She currently leads RU with 16 runs on the season.
UP NEXT

The Rutgers softball team returns to the field at the Liberty Softball Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia on March 3-6. The Scarlet Knights will take on Liberty, George Washington, Notre Dame and Lehigh.
