Softball Opens MSU Series With Run-Rule Win

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – It was a B1G opening run-rule victory for Rutgers softball to kick off its Michigan State series on Friday night at the RU Softball Complex with the Scarlet Knights taking game one, 10-2, in five innings.
After Jayla Fuller made a sports center-esque catch in center to rob the Spartans of a home run in the second, Mia Mitchell led off the bottom half with a home run as RU never looked back.
The Scarlet Knights took a 3-0 lead after two in the books and scored every inning, including three runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth, as Sam Rohwer walked it off with an RBI double with one out.
The win improved Rutgers to 20-21 overall and 4-12 in the Big Ten, snapping a nine-game conference skid.

| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- Junior Sam Rohwer posted her team-leading 11th home run of the year and went 2-for-3 on the night with four RBIs, including her walk-off RBI double.
- Sophomore Addie Osborne and freshman Charleigh Schuettler scored twice with Osborne plating the game-winning run.
- Sophomore Samantha Delhoyo went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.
- In addition to robbing a home run, sophomore Jayla Fuller hit 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Sophomore Kelsey Hoekstra improved to 6-5 in the circle with four innings of work. She allowed one run on three hits, walked five and fanned two. - It marked RU's second-straight run-rule win and eighth of the year.

- Jayla Fuller retired the Spartan side and robbed Michigan State of a potential two-run home run in center in the second. Rutgers then proceeded to go over the wall themselves in the next trip to the plate. Mia Mitchell led off the bottom half of the second taking a 2-1 count over the wall in left for a lead RU would not relinquish. The Scarlet Knights plated two more before the inning was over. Sam Delhoyo, who reached on a double, stole third and scored on the bad throw to the corner. The play moved Addie Osborne over to third, setting up Charleigh Schuettler to push her across on a sac bunt for a 3-0 advantage.

- RU added a run in the third with Delhoyo scoring Riley Hwang on a sac fly, upping the Scarlet Knight lead to 4-0.
- In the fourth, after base hits from Schuettler and Fuller, Sam Rohwer delivered a three-run home to left for a 7-0 edge.
- The Spartans avoided the shutout in the top of the fifth. MSU put runners on after being hit by a pitch and a walk, leading to Doloszycki collecting an RBI double. Doloszycki would later score on a passed ball as the Spartans trailed 7-2.
- Three more runs came in for the Scarlet Knights in the bottom half for the Scarlet Knights' eighth run-rule win of the year. The bases were loaded after singles from Delhoyo and Osborne while Schuettler came aboard after getting hit by a pitch. Fuller hit into a fielder's choice with the Spartans going for the stop at home for a run followed by Rohwer's RBI extra base hit for the walk-off win.
