Belle Huang of Rutgers gymnastics was named a Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Huang posted career highs on floor (9.975) and vault (9.900) en route to claiming her second weekly honor of the season and of her career.
Huang reset her career high on floor for the second time this season, recording a 9.975 for a second-place finish in Friday's tri meet with No. 1 Michigan and Alaska. Huang's score aided the Scarlet Knights in posting the second-highest team floor score in program history. Huang is right on the brink of the program record on floor, which is a 10.0 set by Courtney Turner in 2000.
The captain established new a career best on vault as well, reaching a 9.900 in the event. Her performance helped Rutgers set a new program record on vault with a team score of 49.725. It topped the previous mark of 49.225 that she was a part of in February of 2020.
Huang has now reached a 9.9 or higher on three events in her career, including a program-high 11 scores of 9.9 or higher on floor, six on beam, and one on vault.
The Gaithersburg, Maryland, native also posted a 9.875 on beam, guiding Rutgers to another Top 10 program this season. The team posted a total of 195.675, the ninth best overall score and fourth best home score in RU history.
Huang and the Scarlet Knights are back in action on Friday, February 11, hosting Iowa, Ursinus and Kent State. The quad meet is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET at Jersey Mike's Arena.
