PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Junior lefthander Jaden Vickers tossed Rutgers softball's first no-hitter since 2012 in a 16-0 victory over UMES to kick off this weekend's Rutgers Softball Tournament, while the Hawks came back in game two, 4-3, for the Scarlet Knights to split the day.

Rutgers' 1-1 day moved the Scarlet Knights to 17-10 on the season.

Rutgers 16, UMES 0 (5)

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
  • Jaden Vickers threw the first no-hitter for the Scarlet Knights since Alyssa Landrith tossed her perfect game back on May 1, 2012, in a five-inning game with Lafayette. The lefthander improved to 11-2 on the year fanning seven while walking four.
  • Rutgers had 13 hits from 11 different Scarlet Knights with Payton Lincavage leading the way going 2-for-2 for three runs and three RBIs.
  • Kayla Bock was also 2-for-2 joining Kobie Hura, Maddie Lawson and Ashley Hitchcock with two runs each.
  • The 16 runs generated by the Scarlet Knights were the most for the squad since scoring 18 in an 18-9 victory over LIU Brooklyn back on April 28, 2015.
THE RUNDOWN
  • The Scarlet Knights exploded for nine runs in their first plate appearance using five hits, including two-RBI doubles from Kayla Bock and Gabrielle Callaway, and five walks to take the sizable advantage. The bases were loaded with one out for Taylor Fawcett to walk in the day's first run. The scoring continued as Bock knocked in two runs on a double down the right-field line and Ashley Hitchcock used a bases-loaded single to extend RU's lead to 5-0. Rutgers once again loaded the bases allowing Payton Lincavage to drive in a run on a base hit and followed with Callaway pulling a double to right field for the 9-0 inning.
  • Rutgers used six hits to tack on another six runs when they returned to the plate in the second. Gillian Walsh made her first Scarlet Knight appearance with an RBI single to right, which was followed by Payton Lincavage driving in another run on a double to right to grow the RU lead to 11-0. Scoring continued as Walsh capitalize on a miscue at first for a run and Fawcett sent two Scarlet Knights home on a bases-loaded double to center to further the RU advantage to 14-0. Rutgers once again loaded the bases allowing Lauren Punk to enter the game and rounded out the scoring in the inning with an RBI single to right.
  • RU put one more run up on the scoreboard for the run-rule went into effect. Kobie Hura led off the fourth and came home on a Leilani Chavez single up the middle.
  • UMES only reached base four times on a pair of walks in the first and collecting bases on balls in the third and the fifth.
