Track and Field Adds Two More School Records On Women’s Side

Scarlet Knights establish nine total school marks for the indoor season

BOSTON – Rutgers track and field sent its distance squad to the 2022 IC4A and ECAC Championships, adding two school record performances on the women's side and an event win for the men. The three-day competition wrapped up Sunday at the Track and Tennis Center on the campus of Boston University.
 
"The crew had a very successful meet at the IC4A/ECAC championships," said associate head coach track and field Matthew Jelley. "The Scarlet Knights finished with 10 personal records, five all-time top ten performances and two school records."
 
School Record Times

Alex Carlson earned her sixth school record in her freshman season with four individual times and two as a member of relay squads. Her latest school record came in the 800-meter as she placed third with a time of 2:06.85. Her performance broke a nearly 28-year-old school record set by Jennifer Heggie (2:07.07) at the NCAA Championships in 1994.
 
The 4x800 relay team of Shelby Whetstone, Kiera Nealon, Brooke Riedy and Carlson gave the women's team a total of nine school records for the 2022 indoor season. The group ran 8:44.81 in Saturday's preliminary round to shave nearly 10 seconds off the 39-year-old record (8:54.03) set in 1983.
 
Top Finishes
 
The distance medley relay team of Gavin Richards, Jameson Woodell, Micah Wood and Billy Hill gave the Scarlet Knights an event win over the weekend as they combined to run 9:49.96 and finish first.
 
In the finals of the 4x800 Whetstone and Riedy joined Lou Mialhe and Mackenzie Prezume to finish second in the race with a time of 8:49.80.
 
Hill placed third in the mile run with a time of 4:04.39 to add to the team scoring.

A'nan Bridgett and Sincere Robinson will close out the indoor season, representing the Scarlet Knights at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on Friday, March11.
