Rutgers baseball outfielder
Ryan Lasko was named Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday.
The honor comes after Lasko led the Scarlet Knights to a 5-0 week, including a three-game sweep at Nebraska. Lasko hit two home runs on Friday night against the Cornhuskers, good for his first-career multi-home run game in a 7-5 win.
Lasko drove in a run in game two of the series to help Rutgers to a 5-4 victory. In the finale on Sunday, Lasko hit his third home run of the series and finished the day 3-for-5 with 4 runs scored in a 19-1 blowout win. He finished the week with eight hits, 8 runs scored and seven RBI.
On the season, Lasko is currently hitting .331 with 6 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has thrived in his new role as the leadoff man for the Scarlet Knights while continuing to be an elite center fielder.
This marks Lasko's first-ever Big Ten weekly award and the first of the season for Rutgers, who sits atop the conference standing with the best overall and best Big Ten record in the conference.
It is also just the third time a Scarlet Knight has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, with Carmen Sclafani being the last RU player to receive the
weekly honor in 2019.
