
No. 17 Rowing Closes B1G Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. – No. 17 Rutgers rowing concluded competition on Saturday at the second annual Big Ten Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park.
The Scarlet Knights posted six second place finishes on Saturday, with all seven races won by a CRCA Top 10 teams. The 3rd Varsity 4 and 2nd Novice 8 both beat out boats from No. 8 Ohio State to take second in their events. The Novice 8, again racing up with the 3rd Varsity 8's, topped No. 18 Tennessee while finishing third, just nine seconds off the pace set by race winner No. 8 Ohio State.
The 2nd Varsity 4 grabbed an exciting second place result, coming in just a half-second ahead of Wisconsin in a photo finish.
Rutgers' NCAA Championship boats all dropped time on Saturday from Friday's sessions. The Varsity 8 turned in their fastest race in 6:22.655 placing second behind No. 7 Brown. The 2nd Varsity 8 came across in a weekend-best 6:33.114, also in second to No. 7 Brown. The Varsity 4 finished Rutgers' weekend with a second place showing in their best time - 7:21.432 - also behind No. 7 Brown.
The stacked-field event previewed the site of the NCAA Championships course in May and features nine teams in the 16-team field with a CRCA national ranking heading into the weekend. All eight Big Ten Conference programs are in attendance - Iowa, No. 20 Indiana, No. 6 Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 17 Rutgers, and Wisconsin - and join No. 7 Brown, Dartmouth, No. 10 Duke, Notre Dame, No. 2 Stanford, No. 18 Tennessee, No. 12 Virginia, and Washington State. Additionally, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan State, and Notre Dame are receiving votes in the CRCA Week 5 national poll.
Rutgers returns to action next weekend on Saturday, April 23 at No. 4 Princeton and joined by defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Texas. Racing begins at 8 a.m. on Lake Carnegie.
