PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball was shut out by Penn State, 8-0, in five innings on Saturday at the Rutgers Softball Complex in game two of the weekend series with the Nittany Lions.Â

- Sophomore Kyleigh Sand and junior Taylor Fawcett both had hits for the Scarlet Knights.
- Sand reached base for the 30th consecutive game.
- Junior Jaden Vickers got the start throwing 2.1 innings giving up three hits and striking out two in falling to 14-10 on the year. Classmate Ashley Hitchcock tossed 1.2 innings with two hits and a strikeout.
- Freshman Georgia Ingle appeared for an inning facing four batters and let up one hit.
- Lilia Crouthamel delivered a triple in the second and a grand slam in the third to lead Penn State.
- In the second, the Nittany Lions went up 2-0 as Lauren Marcotte and Lexie Black reached base on walks setting up Crouthamel to hit a two-run triple to right-center.
- Penn State went through the order in the third generating sixth runs on three hits and three walks. The bases were loaded for an RBI base hit by Maggie Finnegan and a walk by Liana Jones added another run for a 4-0 Nittany Lion advantage. With two outs and a full count, Crouthamel hit the left-field foul pole for a four-run home run and the 8-0 lead.
- The Scarlet Knights had runners on first and second in both the fourth and fifth. In the fourth, Katie Wingert walked and Kyleigh Sand put a base hit into center while the fifth saw pinch-hitter Lily Orozco walk and Payton Lincavage reach base on an error at first. However, RU was left on as Penn State retired the sides.
Rutgers softball closes out the weekend series with Penn State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
