May 12 | Women's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Four individuals from Rutgers women's lacrosse – Meghan Ball, Marin Hartshorn, Taralyn Naslonski and Cassidy Spilis – repeated as IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region picks, announced Thursday by the organization. Ball, Naslonski and Spilis landed on the first team, while Hartshorn earned second-team recognition.
It marks the second consecutive season all four earned all-region accolades and the second straight season the Scarlet Knights placed four on the IWLCA All-Region Team. Spilis was a first-team selection last spring and Ball, Hartshorn and Naslonski were on the second team in 2021.
After competing in the NCAA Tournament just once in its first 44 years, the quartet has helped Rutgers advance to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons under the guidance of 2022 Big Ten Coach of the Year Melissa Lehman. The Scarlet Knights open the 2022 NCAA Tournament on Friday against No. 23 Saint Joseph's in Stony Brook, New York.
Rutgers has enjoyed its most successful season since it began varsity play in 1977, securing a program-record 15 victories while advancing to its first Big Ten Tournament final since it began league play in 2015. The Scarlet Knights delivered four Big Ten victories during the regular season, downed five ranked opponents, and registered their first ever win over a top-5 opponent when they defeated No. 4 Northwestern last Friday in the Big Ten semifinals. RU remained ranked in both the IWLCA Coaches Poll and USA Lacrosse Top 20 throughout the entire season and appeared as high as No. 11 in the country.
