The upperclassmen are head coach Coquese Washington’s first commitments since taking the reins
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's basketball head coach Coquese Washington has secured her first commitments by signing a pair of transfer guards – senior Kai Carter from UNC Asheville and graduate student Abby Streeter from Hartford.
"I am so excited that Kai and Abby will be joining our Rutgers family," Washington said. "In the short time I've spent with them, their energy and enthusiasm for Rutgers has been off the charts, which certainly bodes well for what they will bring to this program."
Kai Carter will have two years of eligibility remaining following three seasons at UNC Asheville, where she was an All-Big South selection. Carter has scored 855 points, including an average of 14.8 per contest during her junior season in 2021-22. The Atlanta, Georgia native is also active on the glass, averaging 5.3 rebounds per game and racking up 12 double-doubles as a Bulldog.
Carter led UNC Asheville in 2021-22 in three-pointers made (55) and rebounds (200) while ranking second in scoring (473 points). With a penchant for clutch performances, Carter posted some of her highest-scoring outputs in the Big South Tournament, scoring 23 in a 2022 quarterfinal win and 24 in the 2021 quarterfinals.
Abby Streeter will play her final season of eligibility "On the Banks" following two years at Rhode Island and two seasons at Hartford, where she shot 42 percent from three-point range in 2021-22 to rank 20th in NCAA Division I. She ranked 26th in the country with her 2.6 made three-point field goals per game with the Hawks, connecting on 78 of her 94 made field goals from long range. The sharpshooter from Nashua, New Hampshire has made 175 three-pointers during a four-year career. Streeter cracked 20-plus points twice last season while hitting seven 3-pointers in both games – 21 points on 7-of-10 three-point shooting at Stony Brook and 24 points on 7-of-14 from three at UMBC.
Streeter has made at least one three-pointer in 32 consecutive games dating back to the end of the 2020-21 season.
The full 2022-23 Rutgers women's basketball roster will be published this Summer.
