#NFLKnights 2022 Update
Jun 01 | Football
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Ahead of the 2022 preseason, 18 Rutgers football players are on active NFL rosters. The list includes 2022 NFL Draft selections WR Bo Melton (Seattle) and RB Isaih Pacheco (Kansas City), as well as undrafted free agents Tre Avery (Tennessee), LB Olakunle Fatukasi (Tampa Bay) and Tyreek Maddox-Williams (Los Angeles Chargers).
New Year, New Teams
Several established NFL Scarlet Knights signed with new teams in 2022. DL Sebastian Joseph-Day, who won Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams in February, inked a three-year, $24 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. DB Blessuan Austin (Denver), DB Duron Harmon (Las Vegas), TE Tyler Kroft (San Francisco), DB Logan Ryan (Tampa Bay) and DL Kemoko Turay (San Francisco) all landed one-year contracts with respective new teams after logging snaps this past season.
McCourty Resigns with New England
DB Devin McCourty signed a one-year, $9 million extension to remain in New England for the 2022 season. A three-time Super Bowl Champion, three-time All-Pro selection and two-time Pro Bowler, McCourty enters his 13th season with the Patriots and has played in 188 career games for the franchise.
Burton Returns to Kansas City
Kansas City resigned FB Michael Burton to a one-year contract for the 2022 season. Burton played in 16 regular-season contests and three playoff games for the Chiefs in 2021, and finished with eight carries for 26 yards with his first career rushing score in a Week 14 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Burton enters his eighth NFL season and second in Kansas City.
Still Waiting to Sign
Two Scarlet Knights who logged significant snaps last season – DB Jason McCourty (Miami) and WR Mohamed Sanu (San Francisco) – remain free agents ahead of the 2022 season. McCourty totaled 21 tackles in seven games for the Dolphins last fall and Sanu hauled 15 receptions in eight games for the 49ers.
