PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men's and women's soccer teams have been named College Team Academic Award winners by United Soccer Coaches for the 2021-22 academic year.
The Scarlet Knight men posted a team grade point average of 3.48 to receive the honor for the ninth consecutive year dating back to 2011. Overall, RU has garnered academic honors from the organization 14 times in program history. The women scored a 3.50 GPA and appeared on the United Soccer Coaches academic award list for the 12th consecutive year.
A total of 783 soccer teams (295 men, 488 women) earned the award this year. Of that total, Rutgers was one of 145 schools that had both their men's and women's programs recognized.
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2021-22 academic year.
The men boasted six Big Ten Distinguished Scholars and a total of 16 Academic All-Big Ten honorees. Seven women were Big Ten Distinguished Scholars while a program-record 21 Scarlet Knights earned Academic All-Big Ten.
Jackson Temple was a Scholar All-Region selection for the men, while
Gabby Provenzano earned Scholar All-America and
Meagan McClelland was a Scholar All-Region selection in 2021-22.
