NEW YORK – For the second time in as many meets, Rutgers sophomore
Chloe Timberg set the school indoor record in the pole vault at the TCNJ Invitational on Saturday. Her winning height also set the collegiate facility record at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The Scarlet Knights split their squad, sending a group to compete at the Armory in the UPenn Challenge. Rutgers earned six event wins across the two meets and a total of 16 finishes in the top-three.
"We split up this weekend to take advantage of different facilities and competition," said Bobby Farrell, director of track and field and cross country. The team came out with with a lot of effort and focus. I'm glad to see so many PRs this early. We kept a few key people out to train one more week so we're looking forward to getting into the meat of the schedule over the next four weeks"
In her second competition of the season, Timberg reset her previously held school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.41m (14' 5.5"). The height was the third-best mark in the NCAA this season and the top collegiate performance at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
It was the fourth time that Timberg established a new height since she tying the school record in her debut meet in 2022 as a freshman.
Timberg chipped in one of the Scarlet Knights six wins on the afternoon with five victories coming in field events.
Adam Hunt added a win in the weight throw at the UPenn Challenge with a throw of 19.47m (63' 11"), while
Alex Carlson gave RU a win in the 800-meter with a time of 2:07.07. Her finish was just one second off her school record in the event.
Three event wins came at the TCNJ Invitational led top marks in the men's and women's long jump and women's shot put.
A'nan Bridgett won the long jump with a leap of 7.89m (25' 10.75"), while
Celine Brown finished first with her jump of 6.11m (20' 0.5").
Jasmine Van Note, the current school record-holder in the shot put, won the event at the Armory with a throw of 16.10m (52' 10").
The Scarlet Knights went 1-2 in five events across the two meets. At the UPenn Challenge,
Kyle Lipscomb placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 19.16m (62' 10"), while
Suzy Lacombe was second in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.62m (11' 10.5").
Chris Serrao finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.07, while
Sydney Hawkins was second in the women's 60-meter with a time of 7.44.
Kevin O'Sullivan took third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.80m (15' 9") and in the shot put, the Scarlet Knights finished 2-3 with
Olivia Prescott taking second with a throw of 12.96m (42' 6.25"), followed by
Kelly Enterline in third with a mark of 12.50m (41').
At the TCNJ Invitational,
Sincere Robinson took second in the long jump with a leap of 7.88m (25' 10.25") and
Faith Bethea was second in the women's long jump with a distance of 6.05m (19' 10.25").
Alicia Campbell finished runner up in the shot put with a throw of 15.13m (49' 7.75").
Other noteable performances were turned in by
William Hare and
Justin Cornetta at the UPenn Challenge. The pair ran times in the 3,000-meter that ranked in the top-10 all-time in the Rutgers record book. Hare posted the second-fastest time (8:12.16), followed by Cornetta with the third-best time (8:17.62) at RU.
Rutgers will travel north for the Battle In Beantown on the campus of Boston University on Saturday, Jan. 21.
