Junior posts her second career 9.9 on vault with a Yurchenko one and a half
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Rutgers gymnastics finished a coast-to-coast long weekend starting in Oregon, stopping in New Jersey, and ending in Happy Valley, where the Scarlet Knights posted a solid 195.150 on Monday evening inside Rec Hall against Penn State. The score was above the season average 195.090 heading into Monday's dual.
Emily Leese claimed the vault crown in the dual with a career-high-tying 9.900, landing her 10.0 starting value Yurchenko one and a half. It was her highest scored vault of the season and third career 9.900 overall, two of which have come on the vault. Leese added a team-best 9.850 on floor exercise to come in third in the dual.
The Scarlet Knights shined on beam, their final event of the long weekend, posting a 49.100 despite an injury scratch. Slated for an exhibition routine, sophomore Jacqueline Manifold stepped into the starting lineup and posted a career-best 9.825.
Hannah Joyner was flawless on the beam until a hop on her difficult dismount, earning a 9.850 and tying for second on the apparatus on Monday against the Nittany Lions. Stephanie Zannella and Gianna Ortiz also recorded 9.825's on beam to close out the road trip on a high note.
