PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Former Rutgers football standouts Michael Burton and Isiah Pacheco are heading to Super Bowl LVII after Kansas City defeated Cincinnati, 23-20, on Sunday night in the AFC Championship. The Chiefs face Philadelphia on Sunday, February 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Burton and Pacheco will be the 24th and 25th players from Rutgers to advance to the Super Bowl. Sixteen Scarlet Knights have combined for 23 Super Bowl rings, as Sebastian Joseph-Day was the latest to earn one after he helped the Los Angeles Rams to a 23-20 win over the Bengals last season in Super Bowl LVI. Burton and Pacheco also make it 19 former Rutgers football players coached by Greg Schiano to play in a Super Bowl.
One of the best stories across the league after being selected by Kansas City in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Pacheco finished his rookie campaign with a team-high 830 rushing yards on 170 carries. Pacheco scored five rushing touchdowns during the regular season and was the Chiefs' primary kick returner with 29 returns for 597 yards. Pacheco produced 22 carries for 121 yards in Kansas City's two playoff games – averaging 5.5 yards per carry – and tallied 130 all-purpose yards in the AFC Championship.
Kansas City's primary fullback, Burton appeared in all 17 games during the regular season and finished with five carries and two receptions. A contributor on special teams, Burton produced four tackles in 2022 and logged 14 snaps with the unit during the AFC Championship.
