PISCATAWAY, N.J. – As part of Chop4Change, Rutgers football's fourth annual coat drive has taken place this fall. The Scarlet Knights will provide 500 new coats to elementary and middle school children in Newark on Oct. 27.
Horizon has provided a $5,000 donation as part of the drive.
"Horizon is pleased to partner with Rutgers football and Chop4Change to provide elementary school children from Newark with winter coats before the cold weather arrives," said Jonathan R. Pearson, Executive Director of Community Affairs at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. "This initiative aligns with our commitment to helping our members, neighbors and all communities to achieve their best health. Horizon is a proud partner of Rutgers Athletics and we work together with the football program and athletics to improve the health of their student-athletes and all communities we serve in New Jersey."
For the fourth consecutive year, Macy's is proud to support Chop4Change with discounted coats and Macy's gift cards.
"Chop4Change continues to grow every year," said director of player development
Jeff Jones. "Our players and staff are excited to lead our annual coat drive and give back to the community. We look forward to being at the Golden Dome on Friday to deliver coats to the school children."
Chop4Change has purchased and donated over 1,000 winter coats the previous three years. The initiative also distributed 400 $200 ShopRite gift cards for Easter dinner, dispensed 150 headsets for children to learn at home during the pandemic, delivered school supplies to elementary schools previously attended by players and hosted CPR and AED training for youth football coaches. Overall, the program has raised over $250,000 since 2020.
