No. 13 Wrestling Blanks Edinboro, 49-0

EDINBORO, Pa. – No. 13 Rutgers wrestling (3-1, 0-0) shut out Edinboro (0-2, 0-0), 49-0, on Friday night at McComb Fieldhouse. All 10 wins for the Scarlet Knights came via bonus, which included falls from No. 23 Andrew Clark (157) and Joe Fongaro (141). Friday night's victory marked the second shutout for RU this season, as it opened the dual schedule with a 47-0 win over Duke out in San Luis Obispo, California.
 
In total, Rutgers produced five tech falls, three major decisions and two falls. Clark, No. 6 Dean Peterson (125), No. 7 John Poznanski (197) and No. 6 Yaraslau Slavikouski all remained undefeated after their bouts against the Fighting Scots.
 
"I was really happy with how our guys wrestled tonight, as t­­hey were aggressive throughout the dual," said head coach Scott Goodale. "We're excited to get back to Piscataway for our next two matches at Jersey Mike's Arena."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Peterson was the aggressor throughout his match to open the dual, as he landed five takedowns in his 20-5 tech fall over Caleb Edwards. Four of those came in the final two minutes of the match, as Peterson moved to 4-0 on the season and gave Rutgers a quick 5-0 advantage.
  • Shawver also scored throughout his bout with Jacob Brenneman, landing six takedowns for a 20-8 major decision. Getting the start at 141, Fongaro followed with the first fall of the night to move the Scarlet Knights to a 15-0 advantage on the team scoreboard.
  •  Michael Cetta (149) made his second start of the season and was dominant in his 20-5 tech fall over Staffan Lynch. Clark, appearing in his first match of the season, needed just 46 seconds to pin Colin Roberts, as Rutgers entered intermission with a 26-0 lead.
  • Rutgers continued to roll out of the break, as No. 22 Anthony White (165) and No. 27 Jackson Turley (174) recorded back-to-back tech falls to put the dual out of reach.
  • No. 12 Brian Soldano (184) muscled a 12-3 major decision over Brody Evans before Poznanski recorded his third tech fall of the season, this one by 18-3 over Jack Kilner.
  • Slavikouski closed out the dual with an 18-8 major over New Jersey native Nick Lodato, giving Rutgers a 49-0 win over Edinboro.
