Iris Langejans Named First Team All-American; Puck Winter Named Second Team All-American
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers field hockey was recognized with two All-Americans, as announced by the NFHCA on Tuesday. Iris Langejans was named a First Team All-American, while Puck Winter was named a Second Team All-American.
Langejans earns All-American honors for the second consecutive season, as she was named a Third Team All-American last season. This season, the native of Almelo in the Netherlands adds All-American honors to a list of accolades that includes Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, Big Ten Player of the Year and First Team All-Big Ten (unanimous selection) and to the NFHCA's Senior Game. Langejans impacted the game at all levels this season, starting all 20 games at back, where she helped RU allow just 1.4 goals per game. She added one goal and six assists this season, and the redshirt senior has five goals and 15 assists in her 61 game Rutgers career. Langejans was also selected for the NFHCA's Senior Game.
Winter had a stellar campaign as a redshirt sophomore, earning All-American honors for the first time in her career with the placement on the Second Team. This season, she has previously been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Big Ten and First Team All-Region. A native of Deventer, Netherlands, Winter had 12 defensive saves on the season, tying for the nation's lead. Winter also scored eight goals, second on the team. She was named a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and was the NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week following the team's wins over No. 9 Ohio State and Michigan State.
Langejans being named a First Team All-American was the third time in the past four seasons that RU had a First Team All-American. Gianna Glatz was named a First Team All-American in both the fall and spring 2021 seasons, while Katie Larmour was a First Team All-American in the spring of 2021. With Langejans and Winter's selections, RU had multiple All-Americans for the fourth time in the past five seasons. Under head coach Meredith Civico, Rutgers' has had 11 players named All-Americans since 2018 after only having one All-American selections between 2002 and 2017.
