Tennis Announces 2024 Spring Schedule
Dec 07 | Women's Tennis
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers women's tennis head coach, Hilary Ritchie, announced the 2024 spring slate Thursday afternoon. The team will play a total of 22 matches during the upcoming campaign, 10 at home and 12 on the road.
"I am looking forward to our spring competition season," said Ritchie. "We will kick off the season against a strong Princeton team. This year, Michigan and Michigan State are back on our schedule after two seasons of no-play rotations. This schedule provides us several opportunities to test ourselves against top national teams. I am optimistic that our large senior class is going to lead this team through a great season."
All home indoor matches will be played at the East Brunswick Racquet Club in East Brunswick, N.J. Once the weather permits, the Scarlet Knights will move outdoors for their first-ever matches at the new courts on the Livingston Campus in Piscataway, N.J.
Rutgers will open the 2024 spring season in a big way, competing in two matches on January 20 to begin its spring slate. The Scarlet Knights will open the campaign at Princeton (11 a.m.), before heading home to take on Howard (5 p.m.) later that same day.
RU will then have a week to prepare for NJIT on January 27 (12 p.m.) in Newark, N.J.
Following their match against the Highlanders, the Scarlet Knights will return to East Brunswick Racquet Club for two-straight home matches, where they will host Delaware on February 2 (12 p.m.) and Yale on February 3 (5 p.m.).
Rutgers will then hit the road to face another in-state opponent, this time the Seton Hall Pirates on February 10 (5:45 p.m.). Following the match up, RU will have a week off before heading north to face Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. on February 17 (12 p.m.) and UConn in Storrs, Conn. on February 18 (10:30 a.m.).
After the road trip, the Scarlet Knights will enter their longest homestand of the season. RU will face St. John's on February 23, before opening Big Ten play on March 1 against Purdue. Both matches will have a noon start time. To close out the stretch, Rutgers will host Army on March 3 (2 p.m.).
The team will then head west for a trip to Illinois, where RU will play three matches against UIC (March 14), Northwestern, (March 16) and Illinois (March 17). The start time for the UIC match is TBD, while the contests against Northwestern and Illinois will both begin at noon.
The Scarlet Knights will then head back home to host two conference foes, Michigan State on March 22 (12 p.m.) and reigning Big Ten Champion, Michigan on March 24 (1 p.m.)
In its final road stint of the slate, Rutgers will compete in four-straight matches at Penn State on March 29 (12 p.m.), Ohio State on March 31 (12 p.m.), Iowa on April 6 (12 p.m.), and Maryland on April 13 (11:00 a.m.).
The Scarlet Knights will wrap up the 2024 regular season at home with consecutive matches against Wisconsin on April 20 and Minnesota on April 21. Both bouts will begin at 12 p.m.
The 2024 Big Ten Tournament will take place at Michigan this season and run from April 24-28.
