Burton, Pacheco Win Super Bowl LVII
Feb 13 | Football
GLENDALE, Ariz. – Former Rutgers football standouts Michael Burton and Isiah Pacheco are Super Bowl LVII Champions after helping Kansas City to a 38-35 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday night at State Farm Stadium. Burton and Pacheco become the 17th and 18th Scarlet Knights in program history to win a Super Bowl.
It marks the second consecutive year a former Rutgers football player has won a Super Bowl ring after Sebastian Joseph-Day helped the Los Angeles Rams to a win over Cincinnati in Super Bowl LVI.
Pacheco finished with a game-high 76 rushing yards and a touchdown, becoming the first Scarlet Knight to score in a Super Bowl since L.J. Smith hauled in a touchdown reception for the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX. Pacheco averaged 5.1 yards per carry, including a long of 24 yards in the first quarter.
Burton played extensively on special teams and registered a tackle on kickoff coverage. The fullback also appeared in the backfield with Pacheco in the fourth quarter, helping Pacheco spring free for a 10-yard run to pick up a first down and help the Chiefs continue their game-winning scoring drive.
In total, 18 Scarlet Knights have combined for 25 Super Bowl rings.
