PEORIA, Ariz. – Rutgers women's golf wrapped up a successful weekend in Arizona, finishing in fifth place in a very strong field at the Westbrook Invitational, ahead of No. 36-ranked Charleston as well as Big Ten teams Minnesota, Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin.
The Scarlet Knights set a program record with a 54-hole score of 861, besting the previous mark by four strokes. The team's third round score of 280 was the second-best round in program history, missing the team record by just one stroke.
"This final round was a great example of this team's potential," head coach
Kari Williams said. "Nicole had a career-best performance, Leigha earned another top-10 finish and overall it was a solid event. It was fun to see everyone post a round under-par and handle themselves so well against tough competition. We head back to campus with some time to prepare for another strong field down at Briars Creek in South Carolina."

Nicole Ewing had her best day as a Scarlet Knight on Monday, shattering her career low with a 4-under 68, helping her shoot up to finish in a tie for 33rd. Ewing rolled in five birdies and added another 12 pars in her round.
"It was nice to play in my hometown this week, I felt a lot of support out there." Ewing said. "We had some great weather today and got to attack the golf course. I have been hitting the ball really well all week so it was fun to roll in some putts."
Like Ewing,
Leigha Devine also had five birdies and 12 pars, using her 4-under 68 to collect another top-10 finish by wrapping up the tournament in a tie for eighth. In just six tournaments in the 2022-23 season, Devine now has four top-10 finishes.
"The weather and course conditions today were fantastic and we were able to take advantage," Devine said. "As a team, we came out with confidence after yesterday and played hard to move up the leaderboard. It's really encouraging to see how competitive we can be against a strong field and we look to build on this experience at Briars Creek!
After sitting in a tie for first place going into the final round,
Maeve Rossi collected a t-11 finish overall.
The Scarlet Knights return to action in the Briar's Creek Invitational in Johns Island, S.C. on Monday, March 13.
