Track and Field Sets Four School Records at Scarlet Knights Open

Scarlet Knights collect four women’s school records and combine for 16 performances on the top-10 all-time list

NEW YORK – Rutgers track and field closed out the Scarlet Knights Open at the Armory Track with four school records on the women's side and a combined 16 top-10 all-time performances on Saturday. Alex Carlson secured two records on the track while Claudine Smith and Jasmine Van Note solidified their holds on previous school record marks.

"We have three weeks until Big Ten Championships," said Bobby Farrell, director of track & field and cross country. "The whole conference will be progressing every week and we need to as well. Today was another opportunity that many of our athletes took to get better and hit another level. Next week is our last competition before Big Ten and NCAA Championships, so it's important that we finish strong."

SCHOOL RECORDS

Carlson turned in the first school record performance of the weekend on Friday as she reclaimed a hold on the best time in the 1,000-meter which was broken in the season opener by teammate Kassidy Johnson. Carlson shaved nearly five seconds off the previous time, earning the school record and event win with a first-place time of 2:42.38.

Carlson then bested her previous time in the 800-meter on Saturday to bring her individual school record total to four events. She ran 2:06.47 to place second in the event and maintain a hold on the top spot in the Rutgers record books. Carlson also has a spot on two record-breaking relay teams.

A pair of reigning school record holders topped their previous bests in the field events. Claudine Smith posted a leap of 12.75m (41' 10"), passing her previous mark in the triple jump which she set in 2020. Jasmine Van Note improved on her previous school record by almost a foot as she posted a throw 16.59m (54' 5.25"), moving past the mark she set at the Big Ten Championships in 2022.
