GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Rutgers softball concluded the Bubly Invitational on Sunday at Pressly Stadium with a 10-1 setback to host No. 8/10 Florida.

The loss dropped the Scarlet Knights to 17-8 overall in their third contest with a member of the top 25.

THE RUNDOWN
  • The Gators bit in the first inning with a two-run home run to center from Skylar Wallace. Taylor Lane helped to turn RU's 11th double play of the season with the bases loaded, but Florida added another run on the play for a 3-0 lead.
  • Rutgers got onto the scoreboard in their next trip to the plate. Katie Wingert and Payton Lincavage were aboard as Taylor Fawcett laid down the sac bunt to put her Knights into scoring position. Georgia Ingle collected an RBI on a grounder to second as Wingert crossed home on the play for RU to trail 3-1.
  • Florida generated three runs on three hits in the third. Charla Echols gave her squad their second home run of the contest with a solo shot to center and two were aboard for Pal Egan and Avery Goelz to earn RBIs on a ground out to first and single up the middle respectively.
  • The Gator defense kept a Scarlet Knights from adding a run in the top of the fourth robbing Wingert of a home run at the left field foul pole.
  • In the bottom of the inning, however, Florida notched four unearned runs. With two outs and Gators on all three bases, a miscue in the outfield provided the hosts two runs to keep the at bats going. An Avery Goelz base hit to right provided two more runs for a 10-1 margin.
