Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 22 Women’s Lacrosse Loses to No. 11 Maryland

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 22 Rutgers women's lacrosse (4-4, 0-2) lost to No. 11 Maryland (7-3, 1-0), 16-8, on Saturday afternoon at SHI Stadium. Graduate student Marin Hartshorn netted a season-high five goals to go along with an assist, but the Terrapins used a 5-2 scoring run in the third quarter to secure the road win in Piscataway.
With her six points, Hartshorn has now produced three or more points in four consecutive games, with all five of her goals coming in the first half. Junior Ashley Moynahan added two goals to help pace the Scarlet Knights on offense.

Senior Meghan Ball caused a game-high five turnovers and added four draw controls - the fifth time this season she has caused four or more turnovers in a game.
The first quarter was back-and-forth between RU and UMD, with the opening 15 minutes featuring four lead changes and three ties. Back-to-back goals from Hartshorn, including a score off the pass from senior Jenna Byrne made it a 5-5 game with two minutes left in the quarter. Maryland would add two consecutive goals in the final minutes of the period for a 7-5 lead through one.
Offense was at a premium in the second quarter, with just three goals scored before halftime. Hartshorn would add her fifth goal of the half to cut the Terrapins' lead to two before a score right before the buzzer from UMD gave the visitor a 9-6 advantage heading into the locker room.
Maryland scored three consecutive goals out of halftime to take a 12-6 lead before Moynahan netted her second goal of the day at the 8:59 in the third quarter to stop the Terrapins' scoring run. Maryland would add two more in the third and hold RU at bay for the remained of the game to leave Piscataway with its first Big Ten Conference win of the season.
