RALEIGH, N.C. and LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Rutgers track and field split its squad across two meets as several Scarlet Knights competed in the Raleigh Relays on the campus of NC State, while another group took part in the Monmouth Opener.
Kassidy Johnson, the school record holder in the indoor 800-meter, added the outdoor record to her resume at the Raleigh Relays. Johnson ran a time of 2:05.65 to finish fourth overall and surpass the school record time set by Dominique Sanon (2:06.59) almost 17 years ago.
Also highlighting the weekend were a pair of facility records at Monmouth.
Al-Tariq Dunson ran the fastest time recorded at the Kessler Stadium en route to winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.25.
Shanelle Colmon,
Jada Ellis,
Azariah Grantham and
Icisys Sadler set the other Kessler Stadium record with the group running 46.86 to win the 4x100-meter relay.
The Scarlet Knights picked up four event wins and combined for 12 finishes in the top 3 at Monmouth.
"It was a solid weekend," said
Bobby Farrell, director of track & field and cross country. "We sent the distance group down to the Raleigh Relays for some good competition. Many of them were able to PR and Kassidy set the 800-meter record.
"Monmouth was a great opportunity to get a majority of our team a chance to compete. Everyone is working hard to make the travel squads and work their way to competing at Big Ten Championships. They competed very well and took advantage of the opportunity."
