Ryann Orange Walk-Off Gives Softball 2-1 Victory Over Seton Hall In Extra Innings

LUBBOCK, Texas – Ryann Orange used a walk-off single in the eighth to return Rutgers softball to the win column on Saturday in a 3-2 win over Seton Hall on the final day of the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Tournament.

The win improved RU to 16-4.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
  • Ryann Orange hit 2-for-4 on the day scoring Kyleigh Sand for the game-winning run.
  • Sand continued her on-base streak to 56 games with a hit in the ninth inning.
  • Morgan Smith picked up the victory to go to 2-1 inside the circle. She threw the final two innings giving up 0 hits while striking out five Pirates. At the plate, she hit her second home run of the season.
  • Katie Wingert and Taylor Fawcett each had doubles. Wingert is currently tied for the team lead in the category along with Smith.
THE RUNDOWN
  • Payton Lincavage opened the bottom of the second reaching on an error and advanced on a sac bunt by Taylor Fawcett. Calista Collins brought the junior Scarlet Knight home singling thru the left side of the infield.
  • Seton Hall tied the game on a Taylor Hill solo home run to left in the top of the third, but Rutgers returned the favor in the bottom of the inning. Morgan Smith went over the wall in the same direction to give RU a 2-1 edge.
  • The Pirates scored again in the fourth. With two outs and a runner on second, Amber Johnson had a hard hit to first to allow Miranda Arruda to score.
  • The score remained knotted at 2-2 until the bottom of the eighth. Kyleigh Sand reached on a single to short left-center and stole second to put herself in scoring position. Ryann Orange then delivered the base hit to center to score Sand for the victory.
KNIGHT NOTES
  • Kyleigh Sand's on-base streak continued to 56 games. She is three games away from tying the Big Ten record of 59 set by Adrienne Monka of Northwestern in 2011-12.
UP NEXT
The Rutgers softball team returns to action next weekend in South Carolina. The Scarlet Knights will take on Robert Morris, Syracuse and host College of Charleston.
