Johnson Sets 800M School Record

Scarlet Knights split their squad between Florida and Princeton, earning several top performances

GAINESVILLE, Fla. and PRINCETON, N.J. – Rutgers track and field competed at a pair of East coast meets with a group traveling to Florida for the Tom Jones Memorial, while others stayed locally for the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton.

Kassidy Johnson reset the school record in the 800-meter run, a feat she achieved earlier this season at the Raliegh Relays. She posted the new top Rutgers time of 2:02.35 at the Tom Jones Memorial on the campus of the University of Florida. Johnson placed third overall in the event as she shaved three seconds off her previous record.

The Scarlet Knights posted four event wins between the two meets over the weekend. However, inclement weather in the New Jersey area resulted in several Saturday afternoon events being cancelled at the Larry Ellis Invitational.

Sincere Robinson won the high jump at the Tom Jones Memorial, clearing the bar at 2.12m. Kyle Lipscomb added one of three wins at the Larry Ellis Invitational as he took first in the discus throw with a mark of 50.77m. Ciara Bullington claimed the top spot in the 1,500-meter run on Saturday, posting a time of 4:42.34, while Chloe Timberg won the pole vault and set the meet record with a height of 4.41m.

Other top performances in Florida included, Faith Bethea who took fourth in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.87m, while Joshua Mather and Steven Coponi finished fifth and seventh, respectively in the men's javelin. Mather recorded a throw of 63.90m, followed by Coponi with a mark of 62.42m.

Highlights of the Larry Ellis included several top-five finishes. William Hare placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:52.25 and Nico Morales took second in the pole vault as he cleared a height of 4.95m. Alianna Eucker finished second in the javelin as she recorded a throw of 46.76m.

Konstantinos Bouzakis earned a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 48.48m, while Dillon Page finished fourth in the men's high jump with a height of 1.98m. Lipscomb also placed fourth in the B section of the hammer with his throw of 61.08m.

Olivia Norris placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 44.13m, while Suzy Lacombe took fifth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.65m.
