Wells Leads 6th-Place Men's Golf Finish at Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Rutgers men's golf earned a sixth place finish out of 13 teams at the Boilermaker Invitational hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana.
RU opened the tournament with an impressive round 1 score of 279 (-9) which placed them in first place overall as the first round concluded. The team would go on to post a final score of 854 (+2), totaling 284 (-4), and 291 (+3) in the second, and third rounds, respectively.
Individually, three Scarlet Knights placed in the top 30 of the two-day invitational.
The Scarlet Knights were led by Luke Wells who had this career best finish to close out the year. Wells finished a strong weekend in a tie for tenth place. The veteran captain shot an impressive 69 (-3) in the first round. The Springfield, Ohio native closed out the weekend with scores of 68 (-4) and 72 (E) in rounds two and three.
Noah Kumar continued his impressive play all season for RU finishing the event in 25th place with a final score of 214 (+1). The junior transfer scored a 68 (-4), 72 (E), and 74 (+2) in the three rounds, helping Kumar earn another top 25 finish for the third straight event in a row.Noah Kumar birdies his last of the day to close out a strong opening day the Knights 🪓

Rutgers was sixth in the contest with 49 birdies only 17 behind the leader Oklahoma. Wells' 14 birdies were a team-high, just four behind leader Kent State's B. McClain, who had 18.
The tournament winner, Purdue, finished with a total team score of 822 (-30) which was a tournament record. The individual winner, Herman Wibe Sekne, finished with a total score of 202 (-11).
The Scarlet Knights now will focus their attention on the Big Ten Championship, taking place in two weeks at Galloway National Golf Club hosted right here in New Jersey, right outside Atlantic City on April 28-30.
