PHILADELPHIA and JACKSONVILLE – Rutgers track and field competed in its final weekend before heading to the 2023 Big Ten Outdoor Championships on May 13 in Bloomington, Ind. The Scarlet Knights sent several members to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays (April 27-29) while a group traveled to Jacksonville, Florida for the East Coast Relays (April 28-29).
In addition to a pair of event wins, Rutgers saw another school record set on the women's side as
Kassidy Johnson added to her previous two RU records. The standard-bearer in both the indoor and outdoor 800-meter, she ran the fastest time in school history in the 1,500-meter at 4:16.87 to finished second in the event. Her performance broke the previous record set in 1994 by two-time All-American Jennifer Heggie.
Kyle Lipscomb and Aliana Eucker each captured individual titles at the Penn Relays. Lipscomb was victorious in the hammer throw (college) with a distance of 63.70m (209'), while Eucker took the top spot in the javelin with her winning throw of 44.82m (147').
The Scarlet Knights posted a combined seven performances in the top three as
Nico Morales and
Robert Paneque finished second in their respective events. Morales cleared 5.12m (16' 95") to place second in the pole vault (college), while Paneque threw 61.22m (200' 10") to take second in the javelin throw (college).
Sincere Robinson and
Olivia Norris rounded out the top three with Robinson finishing tied for third in the high jump (college), clearing a height of 1.97m (6' 5.5") and Norris adding the other bronze finish as she took third in the javelin (college) with a throw of 41.87m (137' 4").
The Scarlet Knights turned in a number of top performances at the East Coast Relays, on the campus of the University of North Florida.
Dennisha Page ran a personal best in the 200-meter to place second with a time of 23.19.
