Track and Field Set For Big Ten Championships

Scarlet Knights hold several performances ranked top five in conference heading into championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Rutgers track and field is primed for competition at the 2023 Big Ten Outdoor Championships beginning on Friday, May 12 through Sunday, May 14 in Bloomington, Indiana. The Scarlet Knights enter the conference meet with five defending champions from the indoor season and performances ranked at the top of league in several events.
 
"The team is very excited to get out there and compete," said Bobby Farrell, director of track & field and cross country. "We have opportunities in several events to score points, they just have focus and execute.  We're ready.  And they're prepared to leave it all out there for their teammates"

Rutgers captured five gold medals at the 2023 Big Ten Indoor Championships, leading all schools with the most first-place finishes. The Scarlet Knights total eight overall medals during the indoor season.
 
Chloe Timberg and Sincere Robinson, the reigning indoor champions in the women's pole vault and men's long jump, respectively, enter the weekend with the top marks in their events. Timberg cleared 4.50m (14' 9") at the Texas Relays and Robinson set the school record with a distance of 7.93m (26' 0.25") at the Rutgers Relays to rank first in the Big Ten.
 
The school record holder in the women's 800-meter, Kassidy Johnson also owns the fastest time in the Big Ten, running 2:02.35 at the UF Tom Jones Memorial in Florida. Dennisha Page has the third-fastest time in the 200-meter dash (23.19), while Nadale Buntin, the indoor 200-meter champion, has a top-10 time in both the 100 and 200.
 
William Hare leads the distance group with the fourth-ranked time (8:52.25) in the 3,000 steeplechase. Ray Sellaro and Justin Cornetta also give the Scarlet Knights a 1-2 punch in the 1,500-meter run, while on the women's side, Alex Carlson will look to duplicate her performance from the indoor season where she captured gold and silver.
 
Jameson Woodell and Chirs Serrao will give the Scarlet Knights a chance to add points in the 400-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles, respectively. On the women's side, Icisys Sadler in the 100-meter hurdles and Reanda Richards in the 400-meter hurdles enter their events with times ranked in the top 10.
 
The throws group will be supported by Jasmine Van Note who has the seventh-best distance in the shot put, while Konstantinos Bouzakis (seventh) and Kyle Lipscomb (11th) will add point-scoring potential in the discus.
 
The men's and women's javelin feature three Scarlet Knights with top-10 performances as Steven Copini (70.47m/231' 2") and Joshua Mather (68.59m/225') are ranked fourth and seventh, respectively, while Alianna Eucker (46.76m/153' 5") ranks eighth in the conference. Mather is the reigning Big Ten Champion and two-time medalist.
