Wrestling Adds Four-Time NCAA Qualifier Mitch Moore

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers wrestling added more experience to its roster, as four-time NCAA qualifier Mitch Moore will compete for the Scarlet Knights in 2023-24. A transfer from Oklahoma, Moore will be immediately eligible for the Scarlet Knights beginning next season.

Moore joins fellow Oklahoma teammate Jacob Butler and Harvard graduate transfer Yaraslau Slavikouski (HWT) as NCAA qualifiers to transfer to Rutgers during the offseason.

A native of St. Paris, Ohio, Moore has competed at both 141 and 149 pounds during his collegiate career, which included two seasons at Virginia Tech (2018-20) and three with the Sooners (2020-23). Moore has produced 80 career collegiate victories and posted 19 wins this past season at 149 pounds for Oklahoma, which concluded with his fourth trip to the national tournament.

After back-to-back NCAA qualifying seasons at Virginia Tech in 2019 and 2020, Moore advanced to the 'Blood Round' at the 2021 NCAA Championships in St. Louis for Oklahoma competing at 149 pounds.

During his first two collegiate seasons with the Hokies, Moore collected 31 wins and was named the 2019 ACC Freshman of the Year. Moore tallied 80 points and outscored opponents 48-7 his sophomore season.

Rutgers finished No. 22 in the final 2022-23 NWCA Coaches Poll, the 10th final top-25 finish for the Scarlet Knights under head coach Scott Goodale. RU produced seven NCAA qualifiers for the second consecutive season and qualified five or more student-athletes to the national tournament for the ninth consecutive season. Rutgers finished fourth in the country in home attendance average with 5,018 fans per home match at Jersey Mike's Arena this past season. Its 7,848 fans in attendance against No. 1 Penn State on Feb. 10 marked the second-largest home crowd for a wrestling match at the arena in school history.
