
Brooke Thompson Brings Home Eight Medals From World Deaf Swimming Championships

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Rutgers women's swimming and diving head coach Jon Maccoll helped Team USA to 25 medals with eight collected by incoming Scarlet Knight Brooke Thompson at the 2023 World Deaf Swimming Championships.
Maccoll, who enters his sixth season "On The Banks", served as Team USA's head coach with seven athletes earning 13 gold, six silver and six bronze.
Ukraine led the championship with 28 medals, while Team USA was second with 25, including a meet-leading 13 gold.
Thompson earned two championship titles, winning gold in the 100 back and as a member of the 4x100 mixed free relay.
The incoming Scarlet Knight also picked up three silvers in the 50 free and 200 back and with the 4x100 mixed medley relay squad as well as a trio of bronze medals in the 100 fly, 400 free and 50 back.
It was Thompson's second World Deaf Swimming Championship appearance. In 2019, she won gold with the 4x100 free relay and placed eighth in the 200 free.
Thompson is also an eight-time Deaflympic medalist having won five gold and three bronze in her career.
