
Women's Basketball Embarks on Foreign Tour

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The afternoon of Monday, August 7, the Rutgers women's basketball team will depart for its foreign tour, traveling to Greece and Croatia until returning on Thursday, Aug. 17.
The Scarlet Knights will land in Athens, Greece early Tuesday morning where they will stay for nearly five days before heading to Split, Croatia for three days and then Dubrovnik, Croatia for the remainder of the trip.
Rutgers will kick off its journey in the historical city of Athens, where it will tour ancient sites such as the Acropolis, Parthenon, the Corinth Canal and Olympic Stadium in addition to a boat tour of nearby islands and visiting local beaches.
From there, the team will take a short flight to Croatia, beginning in Split to see scenes such as the entrance to Diocletian's Palace and Krka National Park.
The Scarlet Knights will spend the final days of the foreign tour in Dubrovnik, taking a cable car ride overlooking the city and a boat tour of the Elaphiti Islands, among other activities.
RU is scheduled to play three games, one in each city. The team will first go up against University of Regina on Friday, Aug. 11. Then on Sunday, Aug. 13, Rutgers will take on InCroatia AllStars. Both contests will start at 7 p.m., local time. The team will play its final game overseas on Wednesday, Aug. 16 against ŽKK Budućnost Podgorica (6:30 p.m. local time).
"Our trip to Greece and Croatia is another opportunity for our student-athletes to have a unique educational experience, which is an essential part of our program," head coach Coquese Washington said. "We will learn about different cultures, develop stronger relationships with each other, and cap it off with competitive basketball games. It is a trip that will provide lasting memories and have a tremendous and lasting impact on the lives of our players."
