Foreign Tour: Women's Basketball Explores Athens, Greece

Day 1 — Tuesday, August 8
11:30 a.m. — Rutgers women's basketball travel party landed at the Athens International Airport after an overnight flight out of Newark Airport. 
12:15 p.m. — From the airport, the team went directly to Allou Gialou for waterside lunch, located in Porto Rafti, where they had a tapas style feast. The meal included homemade pasta, tzatziki, cous-cous, chicken and fresh shrimp.

4:00 p.m. — After lunch, Rutgers drove into downtown Athens, where they had a bus tour of some historical city sights including the Parliament building, University and the National Library of Greece. Then, RU hiked all the way up to the Acropolis to tour the Parthenon, Nike’s temple and significant structural sites.

The team also took a short walk through Plaka, peaking into local shops and eateries.

6:30 p.m. — After a long travel day, the team had free time in the evening. Some got dinner around the hotel and other enjoyed the pool. 

Day 2 — Wednesday, August 9 
8:00 a.m. — the team had a bright and early start to the day, as they toured the Panhellenic Olympic Stadium. The only stadium in the world made completely of marble, was the birthplace of the Olympic Games. The team did a dynamic warmup on the track, led by Strength and Condition Coach, Glenn Cain, while also taking a guided audio tour of the stadium.

10:30 a.m. — toured the Athens Olympic Museum. The team learned the history of the games along with some of its richest traditions. The team followed the history of the games all the way to present day, gaining more knowledge about how the celebration of the games has evolved.

1:15 p.m. — Following the Museum, the team had free time the rest of the day to explore Athens more. Some went back to Plaka for more shopping and dining while others visited nearby beaches.
