Tennis Closes Out Yale Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Rutgers women's tennis team closed out its Yale Invitational run on Sunday against Boston University. The Scarlet Knights earned two doubles and three singles victories over the Terriers.
RU concludes its time in New Haven with 17 total victories, nine singles and eight doubles. Mai Nguyen and Amira Badawi led the charge in the event, going a perfect 3-for-3 in doubles play with a combined three singles wins.
Naomi Karki and Yana Gurevich both recorded their first victories for Rutgers in singles and doubles play.
"I'm pleased with how the group competed this weekend," said head coach Hilary Ritchie. "We showed a lot of improvement in doubles, implementing more aggressive play. It was great to see our newcomers get regional wins, as well."
Doubles
Rutgers and BU split the doubles courts on the day, with each team recording two wins.
Badawi and Nguyen teamed up for the third time in the tournament, downing the Terriers, 7-5, to complete their unbeaten weekend as a duo.
Minchae Kim and Naomi Karki also picked up a victory in doubles play, 6-2.
Singles
Badawi, Kim, and Karki all also recorded wins in singles play.
Badawi fought back from down one set to take down BU's Michelle Kleynerman, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3), for her first singles win of the fall.
After a tiebreaker was needed to claim the first set, Kim cruised to her second singles win on the weekend over Emily Zhao, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1
Karki recorded her first singles victory of her collegiate career, completing a comeback to win, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3), over BU.
