NEWARK, N.J. — The Rutgers women's tennis team (2-1, 0-0 B1G) downed NJIT (1-1), 6-1, for its first road victory of the dual season.
Doubles
The two teams played an extremely tight round of doubles competitions, with the Scarlet Knights coming out with the point.
All three duos for RU found themselves in tough matches with the Highlanders.
Mai Nguyen and
Minchae Kim secured the first victory for the Scarlet Knights with a 6-2 victory.
The duos of
Tara Chilton and
Yana Gurevich then sealed the doubles point for Rutgers with a 7-6 victory over the Highlanders.
Arina Valitova and
Naomi Karki also recorded a 7-6 victory to close out the doubles round.
Singles
Chilton started singles play off with a straight-sets victory on court No. 1, 6-4, 6-4.
Jackeline Lopez followed her victory up with another singles win at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 7-6(4).
Gurevich was then able to clinch the dual victory for the Scarlet Knights with a tough 7-6(5), 0-6, 6-3 win over the Highlanders.
Nguyen was quick to follow Gurevich's victory, defeating the opposition in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Kim rounded out the victories for RU, downing her opponent on court No. 5 in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-2.
