CLEMSON, S.C. and BOSTON – Rutgers track and field wrapped up a solid weekend, splitting the squad between the Bob Pollock Invitational on the campus of Clemson and the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University. The Scarlet Knights posted more than a dozen performances that qualified for the top-10 all-time list and improved its NCAA standing in several events.
"We got hit hard this month with up to 15 athletes out sick," said
Bobby Farrell director of track & field and cross country. "So they battled through that and we came out of this weekend with some very strong performances. I'm proud of the effort we saw this weekend throughout. The next two weeks will be important as we keep tuning up for the Big Ten Championships."
The Scarlet Knights continue to shine in the men's and women's long jump as
Sincere Robinson and
Celine-Jada Brown finished in the top three of their respective events. Robinson finished third with a jump of 7.89m (25' 10.75"), which is third-best in program history and ranks seventh in the NCAA. Brown placed second in the long jump as she recorded a distance of 6.28m (20' 7.25"), a fourth-best mark all-time at Rutgers and 15th in the country.
The O'Sullivan brothers went third and fourth in the pole vault with both Brian and Kevin clearing the bar at 5.20m (17' .75"). The pair each own a mark this season that ranks in the top 50 of the NCAA.
Claudine Smith finished fifth in the triple jump, posting a 12.54m (41' 1.75"), while the distance medley relay team of Brown,
Cynthia Boakye,
Arianna Smith and
Shelby Whetstone placed eighth with a time of 3:45.64, which ranks 10th all-time in the program.
