Max Melton is set to represent Rutgers football at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. The annual event showcasing the top draft prospects will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and broadcast on NFL Network. The circuit includes interviews with teams, media sessions and on-field workouts. The defensive backs workout is scheduled for
March 1.
Recent Scarlet Knights to earn invites to the event include Adam Korsak (2023), Bo Melton (2022), Isiah Pacheco (2022), Blessuan Austin (2019), Saquan Hampton (2019), Kemoko Turay (2018), Leonte Carroo (2016), Steve Longa (2016), Michael Burton (2015) and Tyler Kroft (2015).
An honorable mention All-Big Ten selection each of the last two years, Melton started 40 games for the Scarlet Knights in playing 43 overall. The defensive back totaled 22 career pass breakups, eight interceptions, 114 tackles, four fumble recoveries and four blocked kicks.
Melton brought in two takeaways in the red zone this past season, forcing and recovering a fumble at Wisconsin and hauling in a pick at Iowa. He also recorded interceptions versus Northwestern and Maryland, adding six pass breakups.
In 2022, Melton led the nation with three blocked kicks, including one returned for a touchdown versus Michigan. The Mays Landing, New Jersey, native tied for seventh in the Big Ten in passes defended per game (1.0).
Melton will first showcase his skills at the
Reese's Senior Bowl on Feb. 3 in Mobile, Alabama.
