PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers women's basketball guard Kiyomi McMiller was selected as Big Ten Freshman of the Week. The Big Ten conference office made the announcement Monday afternoon.
This award is the first Big Ten weekly honor of McMiller's career and the second of the season for the Scarlet Knights as Destiny Adams earned the conference Player of the Week Award on Nov. 11. She is the first RU player to garner B1G Freshman of the Week praise since February of 2024.
McMiller helped Rutgers go 2-0 this week, with wins over FDU (83-58) and Wagner (86-48). Between both games she averaged a staggering 27.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals.
The Silver Spring, Maryland native recorded back-to-back double-doubles with 30 points, 11 rebounds versus the Knights and 24 points, 10 rebounds against the Seahawks. She has three double-doubles on the season so far.
Her game against FDU was her first 30-point performance of the campaign but she has reached double-digit points in the last nine games and 20+ in six outings.
McMiller stayed consistent from the floor, averaging a .440 field goal percentage. She shot 40 percent versus the Knights (12-of-30) and 50 percent against the Seahawks (10-of-20).
The freshman phenom currently paces the Scarlet Knights with 20.0 points per game, to rank third in the Big Ten and top-25 nationally, as well as 38 total assists.
Next Up
Rutgers will play one more game before the holiday break, facing off against Lafayette on Dec. 21 at noon for the Holiday Hoops game. The team will finish out its homestand after a week off versus Ohio State (Dec. 29).
