Rutgers Mourns the Loss of Jacque LaPrarie

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers remembers Jacque LaPrarie, who passed away Dec. 23 at age 61. LaPrarie was a four-year letterwinner (1981-84) for the Scarlet Knights and saw action at quarterback and defensive back.
The son of Walt LaPrarie, a Rutgers quarterback from 1949-51, LaPrarie was born July 6, 1963 in Bay Shore, New York. He was a multiple-sport standout athlete at Sachem on Long Island, earning induction into the school's hall of fame earlier this month.
At Rutgers, LaPrarie served as starting quarterback for two seasons (1982-83), totaling 2,490 passing yards and 280 rushing yards. He moved to defensive back as a senior to record 39 tackles and two interceptions. LaPrarie claimed the 1984 Loyal Knight Award, bestowed to the player who distinguished himself by sacrificing personal goals for the team, and whose character and dedication have proved resilient in the pursuit of excellence.
LaPrarie became a physical education teacher at Tackan Elementary and coached football at Smithtown West.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, and children, Dana, Jenny and Jacque Jr.
