ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Rutgers women's basketball team (7-19, 1-12 B1G) fell to Michigan (16-9, 7-6 B1G), 86-58, on Saturday evening on the road.
Both Destiny Adams (15) and Kassondra Brown (10) reached double digit scoring for Rutgers. Adams also led the team off the boards with six rebounds.
How it Happened
- Michigan got out to an early 6-2 lead, as Lisa Thompson hit an early jumper to put Rutgers on the board. The Wolverines added five more points to stretch their lead, 11-2, at the 4:08 media timeout.
- Out of the break, UM hit three consecutive three's to stay up, 20-4. Mya Petticord added a long two in the stretch.
- Despite another score from Chyna Cornwell, Michigan came out of the opening quarter with the 20-6 edge.
- To start the second, the Wolverines hit another three, but the Scarlet Knights answered with three points of their own, including a contested layup from Adams followed by a free throw.
- UM kept its foot on the gas, going on a 6-2 run to keep the 29-11 advantage and force a timeout from RU with 6:08 to go in the quarter.
- Following the stop, Adams hit a tough jumper in traffic but Michigan followed with a field goal of its own to keep the difference.
- After another five-point run from the Wolverines, Cornwell came up with a big block on defense, followed up by a layup on offense. However, UM recorded another nine points in a row to stay in control with just under a minute to go in the half.
- Adams added a shot from the line to end the first 20 minutes of play, but Michigan remained on top, 45-16.
- The Wolverines came out aggressive on offense once again, outscoring Rutgers 7-3 in the opening minutes of the second half. Adams hit her first three of the season to open scoring for RU in the third period.
- Brown followed up with back-to-back baskets and Adams added yet another pair of shots from the charity stripe to go into the 4:49 media timeout with the score 55-25.
- Both teams continued on to trade scores, however the Scarlet Knights broke through on a 9-3 run to cut the gap, 64-36, with a minute to play. UM secured one more bucket before the end of the third quarter.
- The Scarlet Knights kicked off the final 10 minutes with consecutive scores from Brown and Jillian Huerter. UM added two free throws before Adams secured another bucket to further lessen the lead, 68-42.
- In the following minutes, Michigan went on another 9-2 stretch, forcing an RU timeout with 5:34 to go.
- After the break, Petticord recorded five consecutive points before another Wolverines three. The opposition remained up, 80-49 at the 3:21 media timeout.
- Out of the break, Cornwell secured a big three-point play followed by a layup to keep her team in it. Adams contributed a layup of her own to complete a 7-0 run for Rutgers.
- The Wolverines ultimately came out on top, 86-58.
Knights Notes
- Adams ended the night with 15 points to pace both teams. She has now recorded double-digit points in the past 11 contests, 10+ points 21 times this season and led the team in scoring on nine occasions.
- The junior also led the squad with four steals and six rebounds. Five of her six rebounds came off the defensive glass.
- Brown scored 10 points, her 12th contest in double figures this season, including four of her last five outings.
- The graduate student also paced RU with four assists for the seventh outing this campaign she has registered more than three helpers.
- The Scarlet Knights' bench outscored the Wolverines', 19-16. RU also outscored the opponent in the fourth quarter, 22-20.

Rutgers will come back to Jersey Mike's Arena for a two-game stint, first facing Minnesota on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
