Distance Medley Relay Sets School Record

Condron, Berry, Whetstone and Carlson combine to shave nine seconds off previous top time

CHICAGO and BOSTON – Rutgers track and field competed in a pair of meets as a final tune-up before the Big Ten Indoor Championships. The sprints, jumps and throws groups traveled to Chicago for the Badger Windy City Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin, while the distance squads ventured north to Boston for the Valentine Invitational.
 
At the Valentine Invitational, the Scarlet Knights broke their third school record of the season on the women's side. Sofia Condron, Jenai Berry, Shelby Whetstone and Alex Carlson combined to set a new time in the distance medley relay with the group running 11:18.79, which was nine seconds better than the previous record time set in 2022.
 
Rutgers picked up three event wins and several top performances at the Badger Windy City Invitational. Bryce Tucker won the men's 400-meter, clocking a time of 48.28 and Celine-Jada Brown took first place in the women's long jump invite with a distance of 6.17m (20' 3"). Kristina Tossas placed second behind Brown, as she posted a jump of 6.04m (19' 9.75").
 
Chloe Timberg finished second in the women's pole vault invite with a height of 4.44m (14' 6.75"), just shy of her school record mark. Emma Keating and Suzy Lacome claimed the top spot in the women's pole vault as the pair tied for first place, clearing a height of 3.95m (12' 11.5").
 
Sincere Robinson placed third in the men's long jump invite with a leap of 7.52m (24' 8.25"). Alexis Willis finished second in the women's long jump, recording a distance of 5.81m (19' .75").
 
Greg McQueen ran the fastest 200-meter time of the season for RU as he finished seventh in the invite section, running 21.50. Shamali Whittle finished second in his section of the 200-meter with a time of 21.62, while Jah'mere Beasley placed fifth in 21.84.
 
Sydney Hawkins added to the top performances for the Scarlet Knights as she ran a PR in the 60-meter dash finishing fifth with a time of 7.37. Noah Kriesman hit a PR in the men's pole vault as he cleared 5.06m (16' 7.25") to place second.
 
The Scarlet Knights return to action following a two-week break for the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
