PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 11 Rutgers men's lacrosse dropped a 16-7 final score to No. 6 Army on Saturday at SHI Stadium. The Scarlet Knights scored the first two goals of the game in the first quarter before Army used a six-goal run bridging the first and second periods to take control.
Shane Knobloch netted two of his three goals in the game's opening two minutes for the 2-0 lead, reaching his hat trick with 4:14 remaining in the second.
Colin Kurdyla also netted a hat trick in the game, while
Ross Scott added two assists.
Army used a six-goal run starting at 5:11 left in the first and led 9-3 with 5:37 in front of halftime. Knobloch's third goal made it 9-4 going into intermission. Army then outscored RU, 4-1, in the third and 3-2 in the fourth to clinch the road win.
The visitors benefited from a 17-10 edge in faceoffs, a 24-16 advantage on groundballs, and a perfect clearing day (14-for-14).
Rutgers caused five Army turnovers with
Ryan Splaine causing two to go with his three ground balls.
Cole Brams won 10 of his 21 faceoff attempts at the X.
Overall, Army outshot Rutgers, 41-29, with the 29-16 advantage in shots on target.
