PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball RHP Christian Coppola was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon, the conference announced. 

It is the third weekly award for Coppola and his second time being named Pitcher of the Week after earning the honor last season following an eight-inning, 12-strikeout gem against Michigan. He was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season after his 13-strikeout performance against Penn State.

Coppola earns the honor after a dominant performance to lead RU to a victory at Old Dominion on Friday night. He threw 6.0 innings to earn the win, allowing two runs on just one hit, striking out 9 and walking three.

After a two-run home run and walk in the third inning, Coppola retired the final 11 batters he faced, seven of which he struck out. Coppola also struck out the final four batters he faced – including the side in the sixth.
