Longtime Scarlet Knight To Depart Rutgers
Feb 28 | Scarlet Knights for Life™
Carissa (Conroy) Liverpool will transition to role at VCU but remains Scarlet Forever
Carissa (Conroy) Liverpool arrived 'On the Banks' as a softball student-athlete in the fall of 2005 and for the next 14 years, she devoted her time and energy fully to Rutgers Athletics. From her dedication as a student-athlete through her passion for assisting future Scarlet Knights in their professional development and making connections with Rutgers letterwinners, Liverpool left her mark.
Following more than a decade in Piscataway, Liverpool will take on a fundraising role with Virginia Commonwealth University in her hometown of Richmond, Va.
"This is certainly a bittersweet moment for Rutgers Athletics," said Director of Athletics, Pat Hobbs. "We are happy for Carissa and her family and at the same time we are losing one of our most loyal Scarlet Knights. Throughout Carissa's decade and a half of service to her alma mater, she has touched the lives of countless student-athletes and letterwinners. We want to thank her for all she has done for Rutgers Athletics. Carissa played an integral role in building our letterwinner program, connecting our letterwinners within and across sports and reconnecting many of them with the Athletic Department. For that, we are forever grateful for her passion and her love for Rutgers."
Liverpool is a four-year softball letterwinner, graduating in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in sport management. In 2011, she earned her master's degree in higher education administration from the Rutgers Graduate School of Education and completed her doctorate in education in 2016.
She joined the Rutgers Athletics staff in 2009 and spent six and a half years working in the compliance department where she managed NCAA recruiting, extra benefits and playing & practice season legislation. Liverpool then worked as a fundraising officer with R Fund, serving as assistant director for athletic development-Varsity R & major gifts.
It was during this time that Liverpool founded and oversaw the Varsity R Letterwinners Association, creating a bridge between Rutgers letterwinners and their respective sport programs. Liverpool would later join the Scarlet Knights For Life office, serving as associate athletic director for student-athlete development and success. In this role, she expanded career development resources for current student-athletes and strengthened their connection to alumni and industry leaders. Her impact is evident in the futures she has helped shape and the relationships she will carry with her into her next chapter. Her Rutgers Athletics family looks forward to welcoming her back to campus as a celebrated letterwinner for seasons to come.
