Tennis Edged by Purdue

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — No. 68 Rutgers women's tennis (7-3, 0-1 B1G) narrowly fell to No. 56 Purdue (7-3, 1-0 B1G), 4-3, on Friday afternoon at East Brunswick Racquet Club.
 
The Scarlet Knights claimed the doubles point and Yana Gurevich earned her first B1G singles victory in the loss.
 
Doubles
 
Purdue started doubles play forfeiting court No. 3, but earning a 6-2 win on the first court to level the round.

With the point coming down to the second court, Minchae Kim and Mai Nguyen won four-straight games to clinch doubles with a 6-2 victory.

Singles
 
Rutgers upped its lead to 2-0 after Purdue forfeited the sixth court at the start of singles play.
 
Gurevich put the Scarlet Knights out to a 3-0 lead with her first Big Ten victory over the Boilermakers' Kennedy Gibbs, 6-4, 7-6(3).
 
Purdue fought, however, picking up four-straight singles wins to come back and clinch the dual.

Rutgers returns to its home court on Sunday, March 3 to host Army. The match will celebrate the second Community Day of the season.
