Sinibaldi Named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – After a complete-game shutout against UConn on Friday, Justin Sinibaldi was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Sinibaldi set the tone for the series and led Rutgers to a 3-0 win with nine innings, zero runs on four hits, nine strikeouts and just one walk. It marked the first complete-game shutout for a Rutgers pitcher since Howie Brey's shutout against Penn State in 2016.

The Scarlet Knights needed every bit of Sinibaldi's brilliance, with the game tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh. After RU took a 3-0 lead, Sinibaldi threw a 1-2-3 eighth and got two quick outs in the ninth before a walk and single gave him his first real trouble of the day. He remained tough and got the game-ending groundout on his 110th pitch of the game. It was the third time in the last four weeks that Sinibaldi has gone at least eight innings and he has now gone seven or more innings in four of his six starts.

It marks the first weekly award from the conference for Sinibaldi and he joins Christian Coppola and Scarlet Knights who have been named Pitcher of the Week by the Big Ten so far this season.
