Men's Golf Ends Regular Season At Tiger Collegiate Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Rutgers men's golf wrapped up their spring season with a 14th place finish at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational hosted by University of Missouri.

"This one stings a little bit. We got off to a slow start, but the guys kept fighting," Coach Rob Shutte said about the team's performance. "We had a good finish here to put us in a good position for the postseason. We learned a lot from the set up this week. The set up was a lot different than last year, the pins were tucked three or four paces from the edge of every green. I think it exposed some of the areas we need to work on in the next two weeks before Big Tens."

Xavier Marcoux continued his strong spring as he placed T38 out of a big field of 104 golfers. He shot 2-under in the last two rounds with nine birdies, including four in a row in the back nine of round 2.

Luke Wells and Weston Jones both kicked off the event strong shooting 1-under with 14 pars in round 1. Rhett Sellers tied for 11th in the tournament with 37 pars.

Sellers and Jones both record eagles in round three. Sellers eagled a 422 yard par 4 on hole 1 to kick off his back nine after starting on hole 10. Jones scored his eagle on a 450 yard par 4 on hole 13.

With their first NCAA berth in 20 years still on the line, the Scarlet Knights will travel to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the Big Ten Championships on Friday April 26th.

"We're capable," Coach Shutte said about his outlook on the Big Ten Championship. "We know what Scioto (Country Club) is going to represent. It's a Donald Ross golf course. It's going to have really fast greens and a championship setup. We'll have to do all four phases of the game; drive it well, control your distances, miss in the right spots, and putt really well. A lot of it will depend on guys continuing to have positive attitudes about themselves and each other, and I bet that helps things happen on the golf course. We have a lot of data that says we can compete with anyone in the Big Ten when we are all clicking, so we just have to reset and do it."
