COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rutgers men's golf freshman Lucas Politano completed the second round of the NCAA Columbus Regional on Tuesday at Ohio State Golf Club's Scarlet Course, carding a 4-over-par.
Through 36 holes of competition, Politano sits tied for 50th place at 10-over-par heading into Wednesday's final round of NCAA Regional play.
The leaderboard tightened after difficult scoring conditions through two rounds, with Memphis' Christian Morneau holding the individual lead at 2-under-par. Florida's Luke Poulter and Long Beach State's Steen Zeman sit tied for second at 1-under-par, as the only other players under par entering the final round.
Competing in the NCAA postseason for the first time in his collegiate career, Politano continues to gain valuable experience on one of college golf's biggest stages. The freshman became the first Rutgers freshman to qualify for NCAA Regionals, earning his spot after a standout debut season with the Scarlet Knights.
"Lucas Politano is the first Rutgers freshman to go to NCAAs, and to have a freshman hit the ground running is a rarity," head coach Rob Shutte said. "He's carried that responsibility and embraced the opportunity. The sky is the limit for him. He's a gamer who loves the bright spotlights, and he's going to get that at NCAAs."
The final round of the NCAA Columbus Regional begins Wednesday morning from Ohio State Golf Club's Scarlet Course, where Politano will continue his postseason run in Columbus.
