Ann Arbor, Mich. – Rutgers track and field earned a pair of podium finishes, including a silver medal on the first day of competition at the 2024 Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Friday.
Chloe Timberg led the way for the Scarlet Knights as she finished second in the pole vault, earning her sixth career Big Ten Championship medal.
Timberg was one of two point-scorers on day one as she cleared a height of 4.47m (14' 8") to take home silver.
Samantha Gravatt added points for the Scarlet Knights in the javelin, recording a throw of 46.57m (152' 9") to finish eighth and earn a spot on the podium.
Rutgers sent seven Scarlet Knights through to the finals, including four competitors in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
Jameson Woodell ran the fastest first round time, leading the pack in 50.19 to advance to the finals. He will be joined in Sunday's race by
Micah Wood,
Bryce Tucker and
Lathan Brown.
Reanda Richards will move on to the final of the women's 400-meter hurdles, while
Shamali Whittle advanced in the men's 200-meter and
Alex Carlson earned a spot in the women's 1,500-meter final.
Competition for the Scarlet Knights will resume on Saturday, May 11 at 1:20 p.m. with the women's long jump. Links to
